A Gazetteer of Content SMP: Every Place That Matters
Content SMP's map is unusually legible, because almost every location on it has changed hands at least once. Here's what happened where.
Rattenheim
The third stronghold, and the most important building on the server.
RAT moves in after the Easter Slaughter. In its library, he and Moriya find ancient enchanted books; Moriya moves in temporarily to study them, which is the in-world origin of Enchancement.
It's also where the intact third End Portal is hidden — the secret RAT keeps from everyone but Astronyu from the server's opening minutes, and finally shows Luxintrus four arcs later.
Winsweep takes it after the Airship Expedition, when RAT loses everything. Later, Winsweep and Noxintrus bring Astronyu here mid-interrogation to cross-reference his story against physical evidence — and sense they're being followed without being able to prove it.
One building: the origin of a mod, a conquest, an interrogation, and the answer to the server's longest mystery.
Bonesburrow
The Mason's settlement, and the site of the first permanent death.
The Mason signs it over to Diansu before the Battle of Bonesburrow, expecting to lose. The battle kills him permanently and blows a hole through the centre of the place.
Diansu then grants Winsweep administrative control of it — giving the future antagonist his first legitimate authority.
Later, Winsweep shelters here while fleeing Zombiedwarf's ambush and finds a hidden chamber with a book of coordinates, which leads him to Mouthpiece's Lair and the Lesser Divinity.
The will signed here is arguably the most consequential document on the server.
Spawn
The commons, and therefore the prize.
Folly plants a Chorus Tree here for Luxintrus to protect. Oceana annexes it at The World's Faire after Diansu's twenty-minute declaration of war. Winsweep is spotted eavesdropping on guests here before Talon's Endust debut.
Markhett
Luxintrus's settlement, and the thing Winsweep spends two arcs taking from her.
She hosts the Opening Festival here — a genuine celebration, and a trap stocked with seventeen warden heads from EightSidedSquare. Winsweep walks into the Vault and dies in it, and the humiliation is what turns him.
At The World's Faire, he beats her one-on-one and takes Markhett. Inside the Vault, FortunaEl reveals herself to him for the first time.
Luxintrus takes it back at the start of The Revolution. Diansu later tries to steal a beacon from it, which is what triggers the hunt across Wee Sir Island.
Oceana
The nation-state, conceived after the Masquerade when Diansu — freshly killed in the crossfire — proposes an Oceanan world government to Viceroy Boolean.
Noxintrus hides here after the Split, building the case against RAT in a secret room behind a painting in the library. Luxintrus nearly gives herself away putting that painting back.
Oceana annexes Spawn, hires Winsweep as a mercenary, and holds an experimental weapons laboratory and a factory. After Diansu is permanently killed in the duel, Viceroy Boolean inherits it — the nation survives its founder.
Guramont
Where Folly brings Nautilux, and where the L'Ancre passes from one Luxintrus to the other.
Also where Talon finds a sea slug resembling RAT and gifts it to him, mentioning that it talks about the end of the world. It's the RAT of Nautilux's universe, left behind in the exchange.
The Log Cabin
RAT's exile, built after he loses everything in the Airship Expedition. He takes Astronyu with him.
It becomes a refuge and then a target. Luxintrus is exiled here after losing Markhett. Winsweep leaves a compass here pointing at Zombiedwarf and Voidiable's gravestones, with a threatening letter. Astronyu is kidnapped from here. EightSidedSquare sneaks in to wake Luxintrus from a dream about Folly and warn her that Winsweep and Noxintrus are coming.
Smilies and Smilies 2
Winsweep builds Smilies 2 in the wreck of the Freebird, to bait Voidiable back to the server — hallucinating RAT and Luxintrus while he works.
Smilies' basement is where Astronyu is interrogated, with RAT and Luxintrus listening from the shadows. Luxintrus is caught and dies there, then comes back to keep watching.
Neverend
The prison. Reached through the third End Portal, and the destination of the trap RAT and Luxintrus build.
Layer one — the arrival; diving suits at a chute. Layer 2.5, "the Inbetween" — where Luxintrus detours to see if it might house Jemmie, and tests the water with her axolotl French Fry, who takes damage and turns a sickly pale. Layer three — Grandgousiers, which kill Winsweep and Noxintrus a few months in.
Winsweep, Noxintrus and Talon are stranded here for six months. Talon chooses to stay when offered an escape.
Wee Sir Island
Where Diansu and Viceroy Boolean build the Invictus Engine and the Invictus Assembly after refusing Luxintrus's peace treaty.
Mouthpiece arrives here and offers them a deal. Diansu forcefully refuses — the only major figure in the story to turn Mouthpiece down outright.
It's compromised when Luxintrus tracks Diansu home via the electromagnetic properties of his Elysium armour.
Mouthpiece's Lair
Reached by following the coordinates from Bonesburrow's hidden chamber. Where Winsweep bargains for the Lesser Divinity, over Luxintrus's explicit warning.
Also on the map
Fort Winsweep and Winsland — Winsweep's holdings. Talon's Base — where the Endust debut goes wrong and Shades manifest.
The pattern
Nearly every named location changes owner: Bonesburrow (Mason → Diansu → Winsweep), Rattenheim (RAT → Winsweep), Markhett (Luxintrus → Winsweep → Luxintrus), Spawn (commons → Oceana), Oceana itself (Diansu → Viceroy Boolean).
The map isn't scenery. It's the scoreboard.
